Pick up the Phone to Get it Fast : Transportation Risk Phone Quoting

One of the most frequently asked questions our Underwriters hear from our Agents is how long it will take to receive a quote for their submission.  This blog post will focus on how to get your quotes for Transportation risks even faster.

The quickest way to get a Transportation quote is through a Phone Quote.

I interviewed Leon Hilaski, Transportation Supervisor for Michigan and Southern Region states, to learn how our agents can take advantage of this new system.

Leon, how does one of our agents go about getting a Transportation Phone Quote?

Once you have information on the risk (basically the information asked for on our Truck 1-3 Unit Quick Quote), just pick up the phone and give us a call at 800-666-5692 or any of our branch office locations.  It’s that easy!

How long does it take to get a Transportation Phone Quote?

On average, phone quotes will take about 8-10 minutes.  Plus, you’ll have an answer for your client before you hang up the phone.  It’s a great tool to use if you have someone in your office who needs a quote or if it may be a rush situation.

What types of transportation risks are available for Phone Quoting?

Smaller accounts such as 1-2 unit trucks risks or bobtail accounts are the best types of risks for phone quoting. Especially when the insured needs it right then and there. Renewals or other accounts that have an effective date in the future are typically better to be sent in to mitrans@jmwilson.com for Michigan risks or srtrans@jmwilson.com for Southern Region risks.  For other states, please contact your underwriter or visit our website for the correct email address.

What does the agent need to know in order to get a Phone Quote?

To phone quote, we will need;

  • driver information,
  • coverages/limits,
  • commodities being hauled,
  • owner information,
  • and vehicle information.

All this information can be found on our website in the forms/app link.

Do you have any other thoughts that you would like to share with our agents about phone quoting?

It is great for new start ups when the insured is ready to bind. Most times the first quote in is the one that sells so phone quoting is a great advantage to our agents who utilize it. Our hit ratio is about 10% on new business that is phone quoted!

Thanks, Leon!  If you have any questions for Leon, please post them below.
