Out with the Old and in with the New : From the Road with Debbie Martinez, Southern Region Branch Manager

It’s hard to believe that the end of 2011 is upon us. This year has been a challenging one across the board for all of us in the insurance industry, with anticipation for 2012 and what it will bring in the forefront of everyone’s minds. We are again facing the unknown – with hopefulness and a big dose of positive attitude.

Our company and agency partners are gearing up for the approaching new year with hopes of a market swing and better days to come. As I have been traveling and meeting with some of you, I’ve seen you working hard to finish the year on positive notes and trying to get that last bit of premium on the books for the end of the year push. As an MGA, we work hard to put ourselves in our customer’s shoes – remembering that you are also under the gun and facing more pressures than ever.

I’ve heard about your challenges from selling rate increases in a difficult economy to having to shop renewals like new business.  I know that this economy is tough – tough on everyone in the insurance industry.  But we are working hard every day to try to help you on each and every call and make it easier for you to do business, whether it’s through phone quotes, online rating, or just good old-fashioned customer service.

What challenges has your agency faced this year?  What solutions have you found to help you manage your challenges?

Over the past few years, we’ve had to respond to some challenges of our own. In the spirit of  “Out With the Old and In With the New”:

  • Old: Waiting for the phone to ring    New: Picking up the phone and reconnecting with customers
  • Old: Sending information through the mail    New: Keeping customers updated frequently and efficiently by e-mail
  • Old: Watching others network and grow in social media    New: Jump into the social media pool, or take our social media to the next level

How have you implemented “Out with the Old and In with the New” at your agency?

So, here’s to the end of 2011 and to the start of an approaching new year – Let’s make it the best ever!
