Sharing Inspiration : What Will You Blog About?

In my search for my next blog topic, I looked everywhere and finally resorted to asking my husband – “what do you think I should blog about?”  At first I thought his response was a joke, “blog about blogging”, but then I really thought about it. I realized what a great idea it was. (Thanks, Husband!)

Blogging can be challenging.  It requires us to use our minds in a completely different way than we are accustomed to.  For those of us in the insurance industry, we are used to dealing with details, specifics, numbers, and finely tuned information.   Crafting the perfect blog post requires us to step outside of that mindset – outside of our daily routine – and evaluate what we see around us.  Whether we look at our interactions with our customers or our co-workers, our internal processes, or how we present ourselves to the community; it requires taking the time and thinking it through.

In the spirit of sharing inspiration, here are my five favorite topics to blog about (or read a blog about);

  1. Relationships.  Relationships are vital to any industry, especially insurance.  Your customers trust you to care for the things that are important in their lives – their businesses, their homes, their possessions.  Even trusting you to provide for their families if they leave this world.  That is a huge responsibility and one that is not given lightly.  I love to share, and read, information/tips on how that relationship can be elevated.
  2. Social Media.  I love sharing information about the latest and greatest innovations to enhance how we communicate.  Whether it’s a new app for the agent-on-the-go or a new way for our customers to connect with us, it’s always exciting to investigate and learn how we can utilize it.
  3. Small Business Tips.  In my opinion, one of the most important things we can do as a professional is to always be open to learning something new and utilizing the “experts” around us.  Everyone has something to teach us.  I love finding new tips that I can share with our agents, hopefully giving them a new idea for their business.
  4. Wellness.  When you feel good, you work your best.  By being fit and eating well, it is truly amazing how you can change your life.  I find that I feel the best after a nice long run.  I love to share the wellness activities that we do at JM Wilson to help our associates feel better and serve our customers better.
  5. Vinny.  What? Vinny? Here is my selfish topic – Vinny, my adorable Miniature Schnauzer.  You might have seen him grace the homepage of jmwilson.com. You’d never know he was shaking like a leaf during his photo shoot.  Does that make me a “Stage Mom”?

What are your favorite things to blog about, or read about?

If your agency has a blog, let us know!  We’d love to follow you.
